For what reason does the prompt “Word isn’t Your Default Program for Viewing and Editing Docs” appear?

Several reasons may have led to a notification appear whenever a Windows user tried to open a document file in Word. The most obvious is that this can be enabled in Word settings. In most cases, a notification will appear when it is allowed.

Besides Windows settings, there are also cases when another application is configured by default to open a .docx document. Thus, there is a way to make Word the default application, which we will talk about below.

Another possible reason is that Windows 10 can have problems when the operating system sometimes confuses certain configuration settings.

We investigated this particular problem by examining various user reports and repair strategies used by affected users when this hint appears. It turns out that several different scenarios can invoke this hint every time a user tries to open a .docx document:

  • Command-line can be displayed in Word settings – The command line is displayed only as long as it is allowed. If you want to prevent the command line from appearing without fixing the cause of the problem, you can do so by entering the Word settings and disabling the command line in the startup options.

  • Windows 10 Error – It turns out that this particular problem can also be caused by an error that confuses the operating system, giving the impression that the program is already configured for this type of file, which it is not. Several affected users reported that the problem was solved by changing the default application for .docx files from the “Default Applications” screen.

  • Another application is configured as the default application – In most cases, the hint is real and signals when Word is not configured as the default application. If this script is applicable to your situation, you can solve the problem by right-clicking on the file and using the context menu to change the default application.

  • Corrupted Office installation – A corrupted file in the Office installation folder may also be responsible for this particular error. Several affected users confirmed that they can solve the problem by running Office recovery from the Programs and Features screen.

  • Conflicting desktop installations – If you have two or more conflicting desktop installations installed on your computer, this is most likely the cause of the problem. Not only is it possible to install another version of Word, because the default windows tend to interfere with the default application in situations where there are multiple Office installations at the same time. In this case, you should be able to solve the problem by removing all unnecessary Office installations.

Fixes for Windows 10 lags, offsets, and audio delays

Sound Delays, Lags and Audio Latency in Windows 10

Have you ever noticed that the video you’re watching is on a completely different track than your audio? There can be many reasons why your audio is out of sync on Windows 10. In this blog, we’ll take a cumulative look at a few ways to effortlessly solve Windows 10 audio latency issues and sync audio to the video you’re watching.

If you’re experiencing delayed, laggy or delayed audio in Windows 10, here’s the cause and steps you can take to solve the problem.

So you’re playing a great movie to enjoy during the day, but you find that the audio comes out a few seconds later than the video. Such an out-of-sync problem is quite annoying, but it can actually be solved in a few simple steps. Here we’ve collected 5 proven solutions to the problem of delayed audio in Windows 7, 8, and 10.

Windows 10 has always had and managed low latency without getting too technical, but it should never be noticeable. With the release of Windows 10, Microsoft now allows your audio driver to detect low latency.

If an application requires the use of small buffers, the sound engine will start transmitting audio using a certain buffer size. In this case, all applications using the same terminal (device) and mode (exclusive or shared) will automatically switch to this small buffer size.

What are the Windows 10 sound problems?

There are several symptoms, but the most common and annoying sound problems that can be solved with this guide are

  • After a period of silence, the sound starts playing for one or two seconds. A good example is the UAC prompt in Windows 10, where a message box may appear, but the accompanying ringing tone will not sound for a full second. This is easy to check by clicking on the audio icon in the taskbar and changing the volume: if the audio prompt indicating the volume level reaches you for more than 100 ms, you’re probably experiencing this problem.
  • The decay of the first ~ half of the second sound after a period of silence.
  • Audio and video are out of sync in the app or video clip.

Delayed audio and Windows 10

Before we go any further, let’s understand the reason for the delay. According to Microsoft, a slight delay in Windows 10 is common, but it should not be noticeable. Before Windows 10, the sound engine latency was ~12 ms~6 ms, now it is reduced to 1.3 ms for all applications.

Before Windows 10, this buffer was always set to ~10ms. Starting with Windows 10, the buffer size is set by the sound driver. Bingo! So it’s not just Windows 10’s responsibility, but the driver’s as well.

The good news is that Microsoft also says that if an application needs to use small buffers, it needs to use the new AudioGraph settings or the WASAPI IAudioClient3 interface. However, if the application changes this, it applies to all applications.

Diagnosing the Windows 10 audio problems and delays

The aforementioned Windows 10 audio glitches and delays are entirely driver-related. Unfortunately, bad drivers have long been the bane of Windows audio devices, and while we’ve finally reached the point where most PCs and laptops stream audio directly without having to install third-party drivers, these WHQL-certified audio drivers often still get up to scratch and cause significant problems.

In this particular case, these audio problems can be attributed to a new feature in Windows 10 called “hardware audio acceleration.” While hardware-accelerated audio and video can in principle lead to much better performance than software-accelerated audio/video playback, if not perfectly implemented, it can lead to serious problems and side effects. In this case, enabling hardware audio acceleration in Windows 10 leads to delays and lags when setting up hardware acceleration and running hardware audio acceleration.

Troubleshooting sound problems and delays in Windows 10

Solution 1

Fixing audio playback problems and delays in Windows 10 is actually quite simple after diagnosing the problem. First, right-click on the audio icon in the taskbar and select “Play Devices”:

Troubleshooting sound problems and delays in Windows 10 - Solution 1 - Step 1

Troubleshooting sound problems and delays in Windows 10 - Solution 1 - Step 1

Double-click on the primary audio device to open the “Speaker/Headset Properties” dialog box, and click the “Advanced” tab:

Troubleshooting sound problems and delays in Windows 10 - Solution 1 - Step 3

At the bottom of this dialog box, find the option “Allow hardware audio acceleration with this device” and uncheck it. By default, this option is enabled, which leads to the problems described above. Uncheck this option and click “OK” to save the changes.

The effects should be immediately noticeable. You can repeat the tests described above in the “Problem Description” section to see if the audio delay has been reduced.

Solution 2

Let’s start with built-in audio diagnostics. Windows 10 comes with a number of special troubleshooting packages, and one of them deals with audio problems. These include playback problems that many users have experienced, such as distorted sound, delayed sound, or even no sound at all.

Once this is done, the troubleshooter should either fix the problem or at least show the cause of the delayed sound.

Here’s how to troubleshoot audio playback problems in Windows 10 :

  • Right-click Start and open Settings.
  • Select Update and security.
  • In the left pane, select Troubleshooting.
  • Expand Audio Playback Troubleshooting and click Run Troubleshooting.

Solution 3

Most sound problems start with a bad set of drivers. And because there are so many possible combinations, we can’t say exactly what the problem is. Some users solve problems by reinstalling the driver.

Others remove the built-in Realtek sound driver completely and stick with the generic Windows driver (High Definition Audio Device). Finally, a third group uses a manual approach to install the official Realtek driver. We recommend trying all three and looking for improvements.

If you’re using USB headphones, you should also make sure you’re downloading the correct driver. The generic driver provided by Windows will not work in most cases.

To reinstall the Realtek/Intel driver :

  1. Right-click Start and open Device Manager.
  2. Expand the “Sound, video and game controllers” section.
  3. Right-click the Realtek/Intel audio driver and uninstall it.
  4. Restart your computer and the driver should install automatically.

Solution 4

There are a dozen built-in options that allow you to customize the sound control. To solve the sound delay problem, we first disable two of these options. These are exclusive control and exclusive application priority.

After disabling them, some users have noticed improvements. Exceptional Application Priority audio over system settings, while Exceptional Application Priority reduces the sound delay for different applications. For some reason, both seem to cause sound delays for some users.

Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Right-click the Sounds icon in the notification area and open Sounds.
  2. Select the Playback tab.
  3. Right-click the default playback device and open Properties.
  4. Click the Advanced tab.
  5. In exclusive mode, clear the two checkboxes “Allow apps to take exclusive control of this device” and “Give priority to apps in exclusive mode.
  6. Save your changes and exit.

Solution 5

If you recently made changes to the default playback device (speakers or headphones), try resetting it to the default settings. If you’re not sure what you changed, restoring all values to the factory defaults should help. If you’re still having problems after that, continue with the following steps.

In the meantime, here’s how to reset your playback device to factory defaults:

  1. Right-click the Sounds icon in the notification area and open the Sounds section.
  2. Select the Playback tab.
  3. Right-click the default playback device and open Properties.
  4. In the Extensions and Advanced tabs, click Restore Defaults.
  5. Save your changes.

Solution 6

In the previous step, we explained how to restore the default settings. However, there are still a few things you can change to reduce or even completely correct audio delays or latencies. The two remaining options in the audio settings to consider are Audio Format and Extensions. The first option, Standard Audio Format, can work with too high a sampling rate. The second option, Extensions, should be turned off completely.

Here’s how you should proceed:

  1. Right-click the Sounds icon in the notification area and open the Sounds tab, then the Playback tab, right-click the default device, and open Properties.
  2. On the Extensions tab, check the Disable all extensions checkbox.
  3. Now in the Extensions tab change the current default audio format to CD or DVD quality. The bitrate values can be found in the context menu.
  4. Save your changes and restart your computer.

Solution 7

If the previous system changes did not help you, we will now move on to the UEFI/BIOS settings. There are two more options that need to be disabled to fix the sound offset. Both options are almost unavailable in the settings, but if there is no ErP, it is usually HPET and vice versa.

Just boot into the BIOS and disable ErP/HPET and hopefully, the sound offset will no longer interfere with playback. If you don’t know how to boot into the BIOS on Windows 10, follow these steps:

  1. Press Windows + I to open settings.
  2. Select Update and security.
  3. In the left pane, select Restore.
  4. In the Advanced Boot section, click Restart Now.
  5. Select Troubleshooting.
  6. Select Advanced Options.
  7. Select UEFI Firmware Settings and click Restart.
  8. After that, disable ErP or HPET and save your changes.
  9. Exit and reboot the computer.

Solution 8

Another possible reason for the delayed sound in Windows 10 is a set of extra power-saving options that are activated by using power-saving mode or even balance mode. What we want to do is to go to a highly efficient plan and stick to it.

That way, no power-saving options will affect audio playback. This is especially true for laptops, but you can do it for desktops as well.

Here’s how to switch to the power-saving mode in Windows 10 :

  1. Right-click the battery icon and open the power options.
  2. Select the best plan from the list.
  3. If it is not available, click the Create Power Plan link in the left pane.
  4. Select High Power and name the plan.
  5. Click Next, select Preferred Options, and then click Create.
  6. Set it as the default plan and check for changes.

Frequently Asked Questions

To reduce audio interface delays

  1. Reduce the buffer size. The smaller the buffer size, the lower the delay.
  2. Increase the sampling rate.
  3. Turn off the audio input device.
  4. Use the ASIO audio drivers in Windows.
  5. Use a dedicated audio interface with native drivers.
  6. Do not use Bluetooth devices or broadcast audio systems.

The easiest way to solve the HDMI lag problem is to turn up the TV/monitor volume so that it is slightly louder than on the AV receiver. Turn off the rear and side speakers, then run a video program with lots of dialog and little music or sound effects.

The main cause of out-of-sync or delayed audio when playing videos under Windows is the audio system driver software. In the dialog box that appears, click the Drivers tab and select Update Driver. 4. 4. Select the "Search for driver software on your computer" option.

How do I fix Bluetooth speaker lag in Windows 10?

  1. Connect your Bluetooth audio device to your computer.

Bug fix: BlinitializeLibrary failed 0xc00000bb error (Windows 10)

BlinitializeLibrary failed 0xc00000bb

What is BlinitializeLibrary failed 0xc00000bb error?

This is a self-test error when BIOS (POST), Video Graphics Array (VGA) is turned on. This can occur when there are multiple GPUS on the motherboard and Windows 10 suddenly shuts down. An abrupt shutdown can prevent the BIOS from running the actual POST. This, in turn, can cause the motherboard to reset to defaults. The reset disables 4G encoding and resets the PCIE speed – resulting in a Blinitializelibrary failed 0xc00000bb VGA POST error

The BlinitializeLibrary failed 0xc00000bb error is usually related to your computer’s motherboard BIOS. This will probably happen when the motherboard is reset to defaults. Incorrect BIOS/CMOS changes can cause serious problems on your computer. Depending on the error you receive, we recommend contacting the manufacturer of your device for better assistance. They can check the cause of the problem and help you change and reset the BIOS.

Some users have encountered the BlinitializeLibrary failed 0xc00000bb when trying to start Windows 10. If you’re one of them, you’ve come to the right place. This article, developed by us compiles some possible solutions to the problem, and you can try them one by one until you solve the problem.

A number of users have reported seeing the BlinitializeLibrary failed 0xc00000bb error message when trying to boot their devices, especially Surface and Windows laptops. This error prevents the computer from booting normally, and the device may be stuck on the initial screen with the error code even after rebooting.

This annoying error can occur if the motherboard has recently been reset to defaults. This usually has to do with the BIOS of the computer’s motherboard. If there are multiple GPUs on the motherboard and Windows suddenly shuts down, the BIOS may not be able to run a proper power-on self-test (POST), causing the motherboard to be reset to defaults.

What causes Blinitializelibrary error 0xc00000bb to happen?

We have thoroughly investigated this specific problem, looking at various user reports and the most effective strategies for fixing this error message. It turns out that there are several different potential culprits that could be responsible for this problem:

“Safe Boot” is enabled

  • Safe Boot is an extra protection against malware and rootkits, but it has been known to cause many other problems, including this particular error. If you are using cloned SSDs / HDDs or overclocked frequencies, you should see this error during boot. In this case, disabling Secure Boot through the BIOS / UEFI settings should fix the problem.

Boot sequence is corrupted

It is also possible that the reason why the error code occurs on every boot is the underlying problem at boot time. If this scenario applies, you should be able to fix the problem with Bootrec.exe and a series of commands that can restore the master boot record, boot configuration data and boot sequence.

A registry key causes the Windows boot sequence to be forgotten

  • It turns out that a specific memory management registry key may also be responsible for this error. Several affected users were able to solve the problem in this case by booting the computer in safe mode and using a registry editor to modify a registry key called ClearPageFileAtShutdown.

4G decoding disabled

  • If the problem occurs on a production platform and you have two or more powerful GPUs connected, the problem may be that 4G decoding (EVGA support) is disabled in your BIOS or UEFI settings. If this scenario applies to your current situation, you can solve the problem by enabling 4G decoding in your BIOS/UEFI settings.

Damage to the underlying FIL system

  • Another possibility is that your operating system installation suffers from basic file system corruption that cannot be fixed by the Bootrec.exe utility. In this case, your best chance to fix the problem is to perform a repair installation.

If you are currently experiencing the same error message, this article will provide you with a few troubleshooting guides to help you solve the problem. Below is a set of possible solutions that other users in a similar situation have successfully used to fix “BlinitializeLibrary failed 0xc00000bb” error.

If you want to be as efficient as possible, we recommend that you follow the methods listed below in the order shown in the figure until you find a solution that fits the culprit. We have listed them in order of effectiveness and difficulty.

How to fix BlinitializeLibrary failed 0xc00000bb error?

Solution 1 – Enable the 4G decoding

If you use 2 or more powerful GPUs on your computer, you would probably get the BlinitializeLibrary failed 0xc00000bb error if 4G decoding (or more than 4G decoding) is disabled in BIOS or UEFI. On EVGA motherboards, this feature is called “EVGA support” instead of “4G decoding”.

To solve the problem in this case, you can enable 4G decoding.

Step 1: Open the BIOS setup using the BIOS key that appears on the main screen. If you don’t see the BIOS key, you can search for it online depending on the motherboard manufacturer.

Step 2: find the “4G Decoding” option and set it to “On.” The location of the option may vary from motherboard manufacturer to motherboard manufacturer, but it is usually located on the “Devices” tab.

Step 3: Save the configuration and exit the BIOS setup. The computer will then reboot automatically and you can check to see if the BlinitializeLibrary failed 0xc00000bb has been fixed.

Solution 2: Disable the Safe Boot

Safe Boot is part of the Windows 10 operating system. It ensures that your computer will only boot with software trusted by the original hardware manufacturer (OEM).

If you use a cloned SSD or modified hardware, this feature can treat these differences as security holes and prevent your computer from booting normally to protect the device. And it can also cause the BlInitializ 0xc00000bb library to fail.

So disabling secure boot can help solve the problem. Simply go to your BIOS settings, find the “Secure Boot” feature, and set it to “Disabled“. Depending on your motherboard manufacturer, you may find this option on the Boot, System Setup, Security, or Authentication tab.

Save your settings and exit the BIOS. Then check to see if your computer can boot without any problems. If you keep getting stuck on the boot screen, you can move on to the next solution.

Solution 3: Change the Windows registry in safe mode

We have seen that error 0xc00000bb BlInitializeLibrary Failed can occur when the BIOS forgets which SSD/HDD is the primary boot drive. Indeed, every time the computer shuts down, it deletes a page file that may contain information about the current boot sequence.

In this case, you can modify your Windows registry in safe mode to solve the problem. Just follow these steps :

Step 1: Press and hold the power button for 10 seconds to turn off your computer, and press the power button again to turn it on. Repeat the process 3 times to bring up the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE), and then click Show Advanced Repair Options.

Change the Windows registry in safe mode 1

Step 2: Go to Troubleshooting > Advanced Options > Startup Settings and click Restart. When you get the following interface, press 4 or F4 to select Enable Safe Mode.

Change the Windows registry in safe mode 2

Step 3: After booting into safe mode, press Windows + R to open the Run window. Then type regedit and press OK to open the registry editor.

Step 4: Now type the following path into the address bar and press Enter to quickly find the storage management folder :

Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management

Step 5: In the right pane, double-click the ClearPageFileAtShutdown entry to edit it. Set its data value to 1 and select Hexadecimal. Click OK to save your changes.

Change the Windows registry in safe mode 3

After that you can restart your computer to make sure that the startup sequence can be completed successfully without the error BlInitializeLibrary Failed 0xc00000bb. If not, please proceed to the next solution.

Solution 4: MBR recovery and BCD recovery

You may also encounter this problem when the bootloader firmware creates a lot of memory fragmentation, which may be caused by problems with the boot configuration data (BCD) and master boot record (MBR). In this case, you can use the bootrec.exe utility to restore the MBR and restore the BCD.

To do this, you must first invoke WinRE. Then follow these steps:

Step 1: In the advanced options interface, select the command line, select your account, and enter your password to open the command console.

MBR recovery and BCD recovery 1

Step 2: Enter the following commands one at a time and press Enter after each command to execute them:

  • exe/fixmbr
  • exe/fixboot
  • exe/scanos
  • exe/rebuildbcd

MBR recovery and BCD recovery 2

Step 3: After restoring all configuration data, exit the command line, restart your computer, and check if the problem is fixed.

Solution 5: Perform a Windows repair installation

If your computer still doesn’t start properly after trying the above methods, you may be having trouble installing Windows.

In this case, you can perform a repair installation (also called an upgrade or in-situ reinstallation) for Windows 10, which will restore your system files, registry keys, and Windows settings to a known working state without deleting any of your personal data.

Once you’ve updated your Windows components with a restore installation, you’ll be able to start your computer properly. If the BlinitializeLibrary failed 0xc00000bb error occurs again, this indicates that the problem has nothing to do with Windows installation and that you need to focus on your hard drive or SSD drive.

Solution 6: Contact your device manufacturer

If all of the above methods are not enough to fix the BlinitializeLibrary failed 0xc00000bb error and your computer keeps displaying the initial error screen, even if you are using a new hard drive, you should contact your computer manufacturer for further assistance. This is always a good solution when you run into tricky problems with your device.

Repair: Error code 0x8876086A – D3DERR_NOTAVAILABLE

D3DERR_NOTAVAILABLE Error Code 0x8876086A

Several Windows users have reported the same D3DERR_NOTAVAILABLE Error Code 0x8876086A that occurs when trying to run a game, emulator or other application that requires significant graphics processing.

The problem is not limited to a specific version of Windows, as it is in Windows 7, Windows 8.1, and Windows 10.

What is the cause of the D3DERR_NOTAVAILABLE Error Code 0x8876086A?

We investigated this particular problem by reviewing several user reports and repair strategies that are commonly used to solve this particular problem. It turns out that there are several different causes that can cause this problem.

An outdated version of DirectX

  • The most common cause of this problem is a severely outdated version of DirectX. If you’re using a version of Windows that doesn’t include the required version of DirectX by default, it’s likely that you’re missing some of the dependencies needed for this process. In this case, you can solve the problem by upgrading to the latest version of DirectX.

Outdated GPU driver

  • Another possible culprit is an outdated GPU driver. This is even more likely if you get an error message before loading the GUI of the affected program. In this case, you can solve the problem by automatically updating the driver via Device Manager or using the GPU manufacturer’s own utility.

Application is not compatible with your operating system version

  • If you try to run an old application or game on Windows 10, the problem may occur because the program was not designed for your version of Windows. If this scenario applies to your particular situation, you may be able to resolve the problem by running the app/game in compatibility mode.

Application conflict leads to an error

  • Another application or process may also be responsible for the error. It is possible that another GPU-intensive application is keeping the necessary dependencies busy, preventing the program from using them. In this scenario, you should be able to identify the culprit by booting to a clean boot state and systematically disabling application services until you can identify the culprit.

Corruption of the base system files

  • Corruption of the operating system files may also be the cause of this problem. If an embedded DirectX installation is affected, the only way to fix the problem is to use the system restore wizard or perform a repair installation.

Bug Fix: Windows Sandbox failed to start – Error 0xc030106

What is Error 0xc030106?

error 0xc030106

As an avid Windows 10 user, you may sometimes find several error messages on your system. The problems may be caused by a third-party software you are using or by the failure of existing third-party software. But among the many complications, people face in the computer world, one of the ones that strike today is the Windows 10 sandbox problem.

For those who don’t know, Windows Sandbox is a one-time virtual environment that can be activated if and when you suspect suspicious software. You can run it in combination in an isolated environment to make sure it doesn’t interfere with normal processes.

For those who have no idea about Windows Sandbox, it is a small integrated desktop environment that allows you to safely run applications in an isolated environment. It was introduced last year and simply generates a new lightweight (100 MB) Windows installation to run the program. Now let’s see how to fix some sandbox bugs that have been happening for a while.

While Windows Sandbox is running, sometimes you may encounter an error code – 0xc030106. The meaning of this code is that Windows Sandbox did not start. The virtual machine or Container was unexpectedly interrupted. But today there is no need to worry as we have a solution to fix the error code 0xc030106 on Windows.

What is Windows Sandbox?

windows sandbox

Windows Sandbox provides an easy working environment for secure and isolated application operation. Software installed in a Windows Sandbox environment remains a “sandbox” and runs separately from the main computer.

The sandbox is temporary. When it is closed, all software, files, and reports are deleted. Each time you open an application, you get a brand new instance of the sandbox.

Windows Sandbox is designed to run an untrusted application in an isolated environment such as a virtual machine. It is a lightweight virtual machine, an ideal tool often used by developers. If you haven’t heard of Windows Sandbox, find it here and install it. Installing Windows Sandbox is very easy, but in my experience, it is a bit tricky. After installing Windows Sandbox, many users may encounter this error.

Software and applications installed on the host are not directly available in the Sandbox. If you need certain applications in a Windows Sandbox environment, they must be explicitly installed in that environment.

Windows Sandbox has the following features :

  • Part of Windows: everything you need for this feature is included in Windows 10 Pro and Enterprise. There is no need to load a VHD.
  • Pristine: Every time the Windows Sandbox is started, it is as clean as a brand new Windows installation.
  • Disposable: Nothing is left on the device. Everything is discarded when the user closes the application.
  • Security: Uses hardware virtualization to isolate the kernel. It relies on the Microsoft hypervisor to run a separate kernel which isolates the Windows sandbox from the host.
  • Efficient: Uses a built-in kernel scheduler, intelligent memory management, and virtual GPU.

Bug fix: Export or share function does not work in the Windows 10 Photos app

Export or Share Function Not Working in Windows 10 Photos App

In the Windows 10 Photos app, the Export/Share button that allows the user to export or share photos and videos from the app may not work. This can be annoying if the app is already installed as the default image viewer in Windows 10.

The problem is most noticeable when a user tries to use the “Remix” feature for photos or videos. It can be photos, videos, or a combination of the two. If you try to do this with video, the problem will result in the video no longer be visible. Sound is audible, but no video is visible, just a purple blurry screen with no export/sharing option.

What is the Microsoft Photos app?

What is Microsoft Photos App

The Photos app on Windows 10 lets you enjoy, organize, and edit photos and videos from all your devices, making it a good choice for transferring photos from iPhone to PC. However, as convenient as it is, it’s not without its problems when using the Photos app on Windows 10. According to users, quite often the Windows 10 Photos app does not display photos or the Windows 10 Photos app does not open, which is a sign that the Windows 10 Photos app is not working (Another problem with the Photos app is that iPhone photos do not appear on Windows 10 PC; solutions to this problem are also discussed).

Microsoft Photos (formerly known as Windows Photo Viewer) is an embedded Windows application that can be used as a photo viewer, photo organizer, video clip editor, bitmap editor, and photo-sharing application. It’s available in Windows 7 and 10 and is the new version of the app (you can’t download the old one) included in Windows 10. You can also get it for free from the Microsoft Store by searching under “Microsoft Photos.”

The Microsoft Photos app lets you “draw” on photos and videos and browse your photo gallery by date, folder, or album. OneDrive lets you collect all the photos from all your devices in one place. You can create, share, and view your own albums with OneDrive. Albums are created automatically, but you can edit them at any time. You can also enhance photos by improving lighting, contrast, and color, removing red-eye, straightening them, etc. There is a comparison feature that allows you to compare enlarged images with the original ones and choose the ones you prefer. A number of editing tools are available to make basic corrections and more (like adding filters and other effects).

Despite these features, Windows 10 is not a perfect operating system, and sometimes crashes happen. An example of this is the Microsoft Photos crash. Some users have reported that the Microsoft Photos app doesn’t work correctly or doesn’t work at all. The app crashes when opening an image, can’t be opened at all, or the performance of the Microsoft Photos app is very poor, causing problems for Windows users. If you experience any of these symptoms, this guide will show you how to fix the Microsoft Photos app when it fails, doesn’t work, runs slowly, or doesn’t work at all. For detailed solutions, read the guide below.

If you are experiencing the same problem, reading this article will not only help you solve the problem with the solution options provided but also help you learn another way to view photos from iPhone to PC or transfer photos from iPhone to Windows 10 PC without the Photos app. Read on for more details.

What causes the problem?

What causes the problem?

The Photos app on Windows 10 is the default photo viewer. However, sometimes problems can occur when using it. One problem with the Photos app recently reported is that users try to export or share photos and videos from the app but are unsuccessful. This can really be a problem when you open photos on your computer, especially since the Photos app is the default photo viewer in Windows 10 and you don’t have another photo viewer app.

• A similar problem in the Photos app can be seen when trying to use the “Remix” feature for photos and videos. In other words, this problem can occur with pure images, videos, or a combination of both. For example, if you try to play a video with this app, you won’t be able to play it back. In this case, you will only hear the sound, but you will see nothing but a blurry purple screen with no export or sharing options.

  • Feedback from users on social media suggests it could be due to an update that was pushed through the Microsoft Store in May, or Windows 10 version 2004.

  • The problem occurred when users opened an image from File Explorer or the desktop, causing the Photos app to appear on a black or white screen, after which the UWP app crashed.

  • Unfortunately, the error message is not generated or recorded by the event viewer, which means that you cannot diagnose the problem or report it to the Feedback Center with the correct information.

  • “The Photos app seems to have a tendency to crash when viewing a large number of images, with several photos being opened at the same time and left open for a while. “After a while, the Photos window returns to the main Photos page and the recent photo is lost (can’t be used in fast-forward),” a user wrote in a Feedback post.

  • “The photo window opens but remains white/black with no content. This has been happening randomly and inconsistently for weeks,” another user wrote.

  • Windows 10 Photo Import Something Went Wrong – According to users, sometimes something goes wrong when they try to import photos. This can be a big problem, but you can solve it with one of our solutions.

  • Import Photos In Windows 10 Is Prohibited – Sometimes you get a message that access to a certain directory is prohibited. This can be a big problem, but you can solve it by choosing a different import directory.

  • Windows 10 Photos app doesn’t import – Depending on the users, you may not be able to import photos using the Photos app on your computer. In this case, you should check your camera settings.

  • Import photos not working, very slow – In some cases, you may not be able to import photos at all. This may be due to your antivirus software, so you may need to disable or uninstall it.

Fortunately, Microsoft has begun deploying Photos v2020.20090.1002.0 for testers in the Windows Insider development channel, which fixes the crash. However, it should be noted that there are no official answers as to the probable cause of the crash.

This problem can have several causes and can be solved by updating your display/graphics driver or disabling hardware accelerated video encoding. You can also try updating, resetting, or reinstalling the Photos app. Follow each of the suggestions below for more information.

Bug fix: Xbox Game Pass does not work on Windows 10 PC

XBOX

Microsoft has done a great job with Xbox Game Pass, a relatively new service that is seen as the future of games. At first, it made its mark on Xbox One, but now the service has moved to Windows 10, with some problems here and there.

What’s the problem?

XBOX - What's the problem

Expanding to a Windows PC is not without problems. While you can easily access your Xbox One game pass right from the dashboard at home, finding games with a game pass on your PC is a whole different story.

Not so long ago some users complained about problems with Xbox Game Pass for Windows 10. There is nothing unusual about it, so much so that it is irreparable, but still very annoying. From what we now know, people say they have logon problems when using Xbox Game Pass for Windows 10. Obviously, the application is being updated to get back to the main page and that can be quite annoying.

Unfortunately, that is not all. When downloading a game from the Microsoft Store, the Game Pass application, or the Start menu, nothing happens but the black screen. Sometimes the game starts, but the “back” button does not work, and no one likes it, even a little.

What is Xbox Game Pass?

XBOX - What is xbox game pass

Xbox Game Pass from Microsoft is a subscription service that provides on-demand access to dozens of games. This is a huge advantage if you like to play and discover new games, and now that it’s on your PC and not just on your console, your subscription can take you from your Xbox One to your Windows 10 computer.

Xbox Game Pass for PC was launched in June and is part of the new Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Super subscription, which includes Xbox Live Gold and Xbox Game Pass for PC and console. But the journey didn’t go smoothly as some users had trouble accessing the Xbox Game Pass for PC, while others – including me – found that a seemingly random range of Xbox Game Pass for PCs couldn’t be downloaded while others did.

How do I get Xbox Game Pass to work on my PC?

Make sure that Windows is updated

Make sure that Windows is updated

The hint is almost as superfluous as “you tried to turn it off and on again”, but it’s still worth checking that you have the latest public version of Windows installed on your computer. Although Xbox Game Pass for PC was released in mid-June, the ability to download games that it contains was included in an ironic May 2019 update that was released a few days after XGPPC was launched.

As Microsoft continues to try to integrate all its services, it is reasonable to assume that future Windows updates may change the way the store operates and therefore XGPPC. So, if something breaks, first check if the next update will solve the problem. Here’s how it works:

  • To use the built-in Windows update tool on your computer, just click Start
  • Then go to Settings > Update and Security > Windows Update.
  • From there, some updates are waiting to appear, or you can select “Check for Updates” and see what the program returns.

If you are not sure that you have the latest update from the automatic service, it may not have been officially implemented in your region. You can skip the queue and download the latest version directly.

  • Warning – sometimes there is a reason why Microsoft has not yet released a new update for your system, and this may be because there are still some adjustments to be made. Save everything before you update manually.

If the store does not work, try to download the Xbox application (beta).

If the store does not work, try to download the Xbox application (beta)

As far as we can see, the Xbox application (beta) should be a place to view and download at some point after this shaky introduction or Xbox Game Pass for computer games.

So if you have any problems with the good old Windows Store, download the Xbox app (beta) and try to download the game from there. This is the first time that I have had success with some, if not all, games.

You can get the Xbox (beta) app from the Windows Store. Log in to your XGP account and you will see a special Game Pass Store that you can download to your computer.

But your problems may not be over yet. Here we found out that players can download some things and which can’t – they usually get a 0x80070005 error code.

Among the games that seem to be affected by this problem, there is a vampire, a Hollow Knight and Proof, although it is not certain that each user has the same experience.

Make sure that you are an administrator or set up a local administrator

Some have reported that some downloadable games may receive a 0x80070005 error message if you are not currently using Xbox (beta) or the Store as a system administrator, while others have said that you should explicitly open the application as a local administrator (for example, on a PC that has not logged on with a Microsoft account) and only log on to Xbox (beta) when it is open.

Although none of these methods has solved our particular problem, there seems to be enough evidence that this method can work.

To check administrator rights or to log in as a local administrator, go to Start > Settings > Accounts > Your information. It is possible to log on as a local administrator.

Attention – make sure that you have saved everything you need, as this will disable the main user account.

To make sure that you are using the Store or Xbox application (beta version) as an administrator, find any of the applications in the search bar, right-click the desired result and click “Run as administrator“. Once you have successfully downloaded and launched the respective games for the first time, you will be able to go back to your normal account and continue the game.

Re-Register the Xbox Game Pass

Step 1: Enter Powershell in the Windows 10 search box and select the one that best suits you.

Step 2: Right-click and select Run as administrator to continue.

Step 3: Copy and paste the following codes into the pop-up window and press Enter to continue.

  • Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers |Where-Object {$_.InstallLocation -like “*SystemApps*”} | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml”}
  • Get-AppXPackage | % {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDe\velopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml” -verbose}
  • Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml”}

XBOX Re-Register the Xbox Game Pass

After you have completed all the steps, you have re-registered your Xbox game card. You can then restart the Xbox Game Pass to make sure that the problem with the Xbox Game Pass not running on your PC is solved.

Run your Windows Store Troubleshooter

  • Click Start and select Settings.
  • Select Update and Security.
  • Select the Troubleshooting option.
  • Scroll down and click Windows Store Apps, and then Run the Troubleshooter.

XBOX - Run your Windows Store Troubleshooter - Step 1 to 4

  • The troubleshooter analyzes your system for problems associated with the Windows Store and recommends appropriate solutions.

XBOX - Run your Windows Store Troubleshooter - Step 5 and 6

  • Wait until the fixes take effect, then restart the Windows Store. Check to see if the bug is fixed and if Game Pass games can be installed.

Change the Region of your PC

XBOX - Change the Region of your PC - Step 1 to 6

  • Then click Start and select Settings.
  • Select the “Time and language” option.
  • In the Time and Language section click on Region.
  • Click the Country or Region drop-down menu and select one of the countries from the countries page supported by Game Pass.
  • Reboot your computer (optional).
  • Run the Microsoft Store and try to install the Game Pass game.

Reset the Windows Store Cache of your PC

XBOX - Reset the Windows Store Cache of your PC - Step 1 to 3

  1. Press the Windows key and type wsreset.
  2. In the search results, select the Wsreset option (execute the command).
  3. Wait for the command to reset the Windows Store cache. Run the Windows Store app and see if there are any improvements.

Bug fix: This PC was renamed to Computer (1) after the Windows update

Windows 10 Updates are designed to improve PC performance and fix bugs and problems. Most people who download and install them will have no problem taking advantage of new features and improvements.

However, the updates are not always effective. Unfortunately, there are times when they cause crashes, system overloads, and other problems.

Why does this error happen?

This PC renamed to Computer (1) after Windows Update

Some users reported that after installing the latest Windows updates, the PC icon did not appear correctly in the Start menu and other places. They complained that the icon was now a computer (1). You may wonder how this computer was renamed Computer (1) after Windows 10 was updated.

The (1) at the end of the file name is an indication that the executable file already exists. This means that the file you see is a duplicate of the original. This is because the operating system accidentally issues a V key.

Note that this is a simple visual problem that does not affect the performance of your operating system. However, for aesthetic reasons, you can always change it. If you want to know how to rename a computer (1) into this PC after a Windows update, read this article. We will show you an easy way to fix this little visual error.

How do I rename “This PC” in Windows to “My Computer”?

How do I rename This PC in Windows to My Computer - image 1

Microsoft changed the name “My Computer” to “Computer” and then to “This Computer” and for those who prefer it one way or another – or something completely different – it can be easily renamed.

It is also very simple: just right click and rename the file. We tested it on Windows 7, 8, and 10, and it works on all of these operating systems – although there are a few places (like the home screen) where it doesn’t update with a new name.

Settings are made everywhere, although sometimes you may need to update your desktop or close Windows Explorer and open another window to see it.

When you click Restart Later, the “Rename this PC” button in the settings will be grayed out and you will see (“new name” after rebooting) under your PC name. You can change the name of your PC only after the reboot.

Conclusion

If the error occurred after updating the operating system, there is nothing to worry about. As mentioned earlier, this problem does not affect the functionality of your Windows 10 computer.

On the other hand, you have to be careful. If you start to see duplicate files for no known reason, you should investigate the problem and make a request. In some cases, the problem can be caused by a virus or malware.

The best way to solve these problems is to install complete and reliable protection against viruses. There are many security software products on the market and it can be difficult to choose the right option. It is important that you choose a product that many people trust.
