Microsoft has done a great job with Xbox Game Pass, a relatively new service that is seen as the future of games. At first, it made its mark on Xbox One, but now the service has moved to Windows 10, with some problems here and there.
Table of Contents:
What’s the problem?
Expanding to a Windows PC is not without problems. While you can easily access your Xbox One game pass right from the dashboard at home, finding games with a game pass on your PC is a whole different story.
Not so long ago some users complained about problems with Xbox Game Pass for Windows 10. There is nothing unusual about it, so much so that it is irreparable, but still very annoying. From what we now know, people say they have logon problems when using Xbox Game Pass for Windows 10. Obviously, the application is being updated to get back to the main page and that can be quite annoying.
Unfortunately, that is not all. When downloading a game from the Microsoft Store, the Game Pass application, or the Start menu, nothing happens but the black screen. Sometimes the game starts, but the “back” button does not work, and no one likes it, even a little.
What is Xbox Game Pass?
Xbox Game Pass from Microsoft is a subscription service that provides on-demand access to dozens of games. This is a huge advantage if you like to play and discover new games, and now that it’s on your PC and not just on your console, your subscription can take you from your Xbox One to your Windows 10 computer.
Xbox Game Pass for PC was launched in June and is part of the new Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Super subscription, which includes Xbox Live Gold and Xbox Game Pass for PC and console. But the journey didn’t go smoothly as some users had trouble accessing the Xbox Game Pass for PC, while others – including me – found that a seemingly random range of Xbox Game Pass for PCs couldn’t be downloaded while others did.
How do I get Xbox Game Pass to work on my PC?

Make sure that Windows is updated
The hint is almost as superfluous as “you tried to turn it off and on again”, but it’s still worth checking that you have the latest public version of Windows installed on your computer. Although Xbox Game Pass for PC was released in mid-June, the ability to download games that it contains was included in an ironic May 2019 update that was released a few days after XGPPC was launched.
As Microsoft continues to try to integrate all its services, it is reasonable to assume that future Windows updates may change the way the store operates and therefore XGPPC. So, if something breaks, first check if the next update will solve the problem. Here’s how it works:
- To use the built-in Windows update tool on your computer, just click Start
- Then go to Settings > Update and Security > Windows Update.
- From there, some updates are waiting to appear, or you can select “Check for Updates” and see what the program returns.
If you are not sure that you have the latest update from the automatic service, it may not have been officially implemented in your region. You can skip the queue and download the latest version directly.
- Warning – sometimes there is a reason why Microsoft has not yet released a new update for your system, and this may be because there are still some adjustments to be made. Save everything before you update manually.
If the store does not work, try to download the Xbox application (beta).
As far as we can see, the Xbox application (beta) should be a place to view and download at some point after this shaky introduction or Xbox Game Pass for computer games.
So if you have any problems with the good old Windows Store, download the Xbox app (beta) and try to download the game from there. This is the first time that I have had success with some, if not all, games.
You can get the Xbox (beta) app from the Windows Store. Log in to your XGP account and you will see a special Game Pass Store that you can download to your computer.
But your problems may not be over yet. Here we found out that players can download some things and which can’t – they usually get a 0x80070005 error code.
Among the games that seem to be affected by this problem, there is a vampire, a Hollow Knight and Proof, although it is not certain that each user has the same experience.
Make sure that you are an administrator or set up a local administrator
Some have reported that some downloadable games may receive a 0x80070005 error message if you are not currently using Xbox (beta) or the Store as a system administrator, while others have said that you should explicitly open the application as a local administrator (for example, on a PC that has not logged on with a Microsoft account) and only log on to Xbox (beta) when it is open.
Although none of these methods has solved our particular problem, there seems to be enough evidence that this method can work.
To check administrator rights or to log in as a local administrator, go to Start > Settings > Accounts > Your information. It is possible to log on as a local administrator.
Attention – make sure that you have saved everything you need, as this will disable the main user account.
To make sure that you are using the Store or Xbox application (beta version) as an administrator, find any of the applications in the search bar, right-click the desired result and click “Run as administrator“. Once you have successfully downloaded and launched the respective games for the first time, you will be able to go back to your normal account and continue the game.
Re-Register the Xbox Game Pass
Step 1: Enter Powershell in the Windows 10 search box and select the one that best suits you.
Step 2: Right-click and select Run as administrator to continue.
Step 3: Copy and paste the following codes into the pop-up window and press Enter to continue.
- Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers |Where-Object {$_.InstallLocation -like “*SystemApps*”} | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml”}
- Get-AppXPackage | % {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDe\velopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml” -verbose}
- Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml”}
After you have completed all the steps, you have re-registered your Xbox game card. You can then restart the Xbox Game Pass to make sure that the problem with the Xbox Game Pass not running on your PC is solved.

- Then click Start and select Settings.
- Select the “Time and language” option.
- In the Time and Language section click on Region.
- Click the Country or Region drop-down menu and select one of the countries from the countries page supported by Game Pass.
- Reboot your computer (optional).
